Artak Davtyan: Armenia gave proportionate response after Tavush shooting
The situation at the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is relatively stable, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Artak Davtyan told reporters on Tuesday.
“The situation is under control. Escalations and incidents have always been the case on the border and regretfully they will continue,” Davtyan added. As to the recent shootout in the northeastern section of the border near Tavush province that resulted in the killing of an Armenian serviceman and the wounding of three others, Davtyan said tensions are still high.
“Those tensions have always been there to a varying degree of intensity. We had shootouts today yet those were not targeted. They were suppressed after our response measures. We are ready to retaliate in case of further developments in this direction. Regretfully, we had a victim and three injuries, yet the proportionate response followed from our side,” the Chief of the General Staff said.
