Member of Armenia’s Supreme Judicial Council steps down
Hayk Hovhannisyan has resigned as member of the Supreme Judicial Council.
“Unfortunately, the work of the Supreme Judicial Council, as an independent constitutional body, is not in conformity with the best international practice of judicial councils,” he said in a Facebook post announcing his resignation.
“I am convinced that judicial reforms must be implemented in an urgent and efficient manner, which I have repeatedly stated,” Hovhannisyan said. “Whereas, the Council doesn’t attach importance to several ideas and programs proposed by me.”
“Taking all this into account, I have tendered my resignation to the Supreme Judicial Council, urging it to discuss the issue of terminating my powers in my absence,” he concluded.
Hovhannisyan was elected Supreme Judicial Council member on 28 February 2018 by the Armenian parliament.
