Beeline and British Council initiate coding classes at Yerevan schools
Beeline and the British Council launched a new educational project on Thursday aimed at teaching coding skills to high-school students and develop their core skills, including critical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, creativity and collaboration. As the press service at Beeline reported, the project is designed and implemented by British Council Armenia with the funding from Beeline. It will also be implemented with the support of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.
As part of the pilot project, Coding Centres equipped with the "micro:bit" devices and accessoriesill be established in three high schools of Yerevan. Relevant teaching and learning resources will also be provided to the Centres. Around 300 students from the selected high schools will have the opportunity to attend an after-school introductory course which will equip them with the basic coding skills and develop their core skills.
“Coding is at the basis of programming which is demanded profession today in the job market. It can provide a good job and income as well as be instrumental in a wide scope of specialties. We are happy to cooperate with the British Council as part of our social responsibility policy and provide an opportunity to Armenian students to obtain this valuable knowledge,” Chief Executive Officer of Beeline Armenia Andrey Pyatakhin told a press conference in Yerevan.
Deputy Minister at the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arevik Anapiosyan, in turn, noted that the is initiative aims to empower students to pursue better academic and career pathways in in the future. “Since this is a pilot project, we expect the device will motivate students to get coding skills and develop international cooperation among Armenian and Foreign students,” Arevik Anapiosyan said.
As the speakers informed, at the end of the project, the school-based as well as inter-school "Coding Challenge" Competitions will be organised for the project’s graduates to allow them to showcase, engage with, and test their newly obtained skills and knowledge.
