The son of Armenia’s second president Levon Kocharyan expressed gratitude to all culture workers and representatives of intelligentsia who called for the release of Kocharyan from custody.

“I am grateful to all people who voiced their position and preferred not to stay indifferent. I am confident each of them who signed the statement knew they would most probably be targeted by well-known groups of people and forces, yet they voiced their concern and didn’t avoid expressing a fair opinion,” Kocharyan wrote on Facebook, adding the step demonstrates the real will and integrity of a person.

As reported earlier, around 60 prominent Armenian cultural figures have joined a statement calling for the release of Robert Kocharyan standing trial on charges stemming from the 2008 post-election unrest in Yerevan. In a statement publicized by a committee for the freedom of the former president, the artists express concern over the atmosphere of ‘hatred and hostility’ in the country.
