PM: Armenia seals Iran border, suspends air traffic amid coronavirus fears
Armenia is closing its border with Iran for two weeks and imposing restrictions on air traffic in specific cases after the coronavirus cases reported in the neighboring country, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a Facebook post on Monday following a meeting of the government task force to prevent the spread of the disease into Armenia.
According to the PM, cargo shipment with Iran will be carried out without restrictions, while special monitoring will be applied for all drivers.
The task force also decided not to impose any restrictions on the repatriation of citizens of Armenia and Iran.
According to Pashinyan, the Armenian government will maintain close ties with the Iranian government to acquire comprehensive information on the cases of coronavirus in the country and outline its future measures.
In Pashinyan's words, the government will soon adopt a relevent decision which will take effect upon being published.
“I find it noteworthy to mention that we don’t have any coronavirus cases in Armenia and hopefully will not have. Armenia has all the necessary technical and professional resources to accurately diagnose coronavirus,” the PM wrote.
