The daily tally of the novel coronavirus in Armenia has dropped below 400 for the first time since May 24, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a cabinet meeting on Thursday, adding the confirmed daily infections in the country have not surpassed 400 for six days in a row.

The active coronavirus cases in Armenia are below 9,000 for the first time since June 11, he said.

“Therefore, we have a chance to break the backbone of the pandemic,” the premier said, reiterating the need for people to continue observing the anti-coronavirus rules, including wearing face masks.

He also called for a strict compliance with the rules set by the Commandant’s Office at public events, including weddings, funerals, etc.

"Unfortunately, we know for sure that regular air travel will not resume until the end of the tourist season,” he said, stating that the citizens who wanted to spend their holidays abroad should now use the domestic tourism opportunities.

Pashinyan called for more efforts to remove the issue of pandemic from the agenda of the public life, which, he stated, does not mean that the new cases will be down to zero in a short period of time, but rather will drop to a level to no longer be considered a crisis.
