"The Armenian Genocide was a crime against humanity and civilization, and its recognition and condemnation cannot be left out of the legal agenda of civilized humanity," Artsakh's Human Rights Ombudsman said in a statement on commemoration of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. 

In the Ombudsman's words, recognition of the Genocide is an inseparable part of the survivors of the Genocide, their generations, the historical memory of all Armenians, national and personal identity, the guarantee of the realization and protection of their rights.

"For the past 106 years, Turkey has avoided facing its own history, confessing and repenting for the committed crime, taking responsibility for the mass murder of 1.5 million Armenians, and illegal seizure of their property. Moreover, with its policy of denial, Turkey has always acted against the rights and vital interests of the Armenian people. The latest proof of this was Turkey's direct political and military assistance to Azerbaijan during the aggression unleashed against Artsakh in September 2020, the recruitment and involvement of mercenaries in hostilities with its assistance.

Recognition and condemnation of crimes against humanity, human rights, and freedoms should not be buried under political, economic, or other expediencies, as history proves that impunity breeds new crimes.

Recognition of the Armenian Genocide and establishment of Turkey's responsibility for it should be a priority for states and international organizations. The persistent condemnation is the way to rule out the recurrence of such crimes in the world," the Ombudsman added.
