Armenian expert calls for comprehensive measures to prevent provocations in Artsakh

Armenian military expert Tigran Abrahamyan, the head of the analytical center Henaket and a former security advisor to the Artsakh president, calls for comprehensive measures to prevent possible Azerbaijani provocations in Artsakh.

“It is necessary to take comprehensive measures to prevent provocations in Artsakh. The primary issue concerns Stepanakert-Shushi-Berdzor roadway, particularly the presence of Azerbaijanis at the two entrances to the town of Shushi,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday.

Abrahamyan stated the uniforms of the Azerbaijani soldiers deployed in the area make it clear that the internal troops of Azerbaijan carry our service in this part of the frontline.

"The mere fact that the armed Azerbaijanis are stationed just 3-4 meters away from the Russian peacekeeping checkpoints increases the risk of provocations.

“The so-called provocations do not only imply use of firearms or other weapons. They may be sparked by certain behavior, gestures, remarks, etc.

“Both in this and in other areas of the frontline, there is a big problem with the withdrawal of troops, conditionally speaking, with the demilitarization of the border.

“If this problem is not resolved, condemning and warning statements or calls will not make any difference in case of different incidents, while the reported cases will be frequent.

“The armed forces of the countries that consider each other enemies continue to stand face to face on the frontline, with the distance between their positions in many areas being just a few tens of meters,” the expert said.
