The situation remains unchanged near Syunik border area, Security Council will hold another meeting

Armenia's acting PM Nikol Pashinyan briefed the cabinet members on the situation at the border section of Sev Lich in Syunik province of Armenia on Thursday at the beginning of the Cabinet session.

Pashinyan reminded that the Azerbaijani armed forces have crossed into the territory of Armenia in the area of Sev Lich, and accumulation of servicemen on both sides are currently observed, while the situation remains unchanged. In the words of Pashinyan, the situation has not led to a military escalation and no shooting has been reported. Works are underway to remove the Azeri forces from the area, he added.

The acting PM stressed that the situation occurred as a result of pre-planed provocation by Azeris as they had brought with them fake maps trying to prove they were inside the territory of Azerbaijan.

"Let me stress that the Ministry of Defense and the National Security Service refuted yesterday's reports about military actions and disinformation about victims. However, we should treat this situation seriously as we are facing a crisis that may develop according to several scenarios. Our task is to ensure the inviolability of the RA sovereign territory and Azerbaijani force return to their initial positions," said Pashinyan.

He next informed that the Security Council will hold another meeting later today to discuss the situation in detail and make necessary decisions to ensure the management of the crisis.

"We should stay prudent, decisive and principled. State structures should cooperate at the high level to settle the matter," said Pashinyan.
