FM reiterates Armenia's support to India over Jammu and Kashmir

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar’s visit to Armenia testifies to the constantly expanding and deepening relations between the two countries and peoples, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan told a joint news conference with his Indian counterpart in Yerevan on Wednesday.

In Mirzoyan's words, India is one of the key partners of Armenia and developing cooperation with it is among Armenia's foreign policy priorities.

He expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached, reaffirming Armenia’s readiness to take concrete steps to implement them as soon as possible.

"Our cooperation in international organizations will also continue to deepen and mutual support will be strengthened. We extend congratulations to India on its effective presidency of the UN Security Council,” the FM said, reiterating support to India in the issue of becoming a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

India, as the world’s largest democracy, major and rapidly developing economy, as well as a peace-loving country, can contribute to the stability, development and peace in South Caucasus, Mirzoyan said.

“We highly appreciate India's principled position and continued support for a peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. Armenia has repeatedly stated that the use of force cannot be the basis for conflict resolution and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must receive a comprehensive solution through peace talks within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship and based on the well-known principles,” he stated.

Mirzoyan highly valued the statement made by the Indian Foreign Ministry in May of this year, calling for the withdrawal of the Azerbaijani troops from the sovereign territory of Armenia. He, in turn, reiterated Armenia’s support to India over the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

Also, Mirzoyan said the positions of the two states coincide on key issues such as the fight against terrorism and extremism, as well as the unacceptability of the transfer of mercenary terrorists to conflict zones.
