In parallel with the military operations in Ukraine, the whole West declared an “all-out economic war” against Russia, says Armenian expert on Iran Vardan Voskanyan, who heads the Chair of Iranian Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the Yerevan State University (YSU).

“Against this background, the EU officials repeatedly announce that they are seeking more gas supplies from Azerbaijan and Algeria at the expense of Russian gas, while the dictatorial regime of Baku does not seem to mind joining Moscow's rivals in this matter,” he wrote on Telegram on Tuesday.

“If Russia does not have any effective leverage over Algeria, in the case of the dictatorial regime of Baku, the allied Republics of Armenia and Artsakh, given our geographical position and other tools, can become a barrier in the South Caucasus against the anti-Russian aspirations of the Baku dictator.

"Therefore, in view of all this, Moscow should become increasingly interested not only in the rearmament and modernization of the Armenian military, but also in considering the possibilities of de-occupation and de-Azerbaijanization of the Artsakh territories.

"But in order to achieve all that, the Armenian side must also work efficiently and diligently, because new opportunities have emerged alongside the challenges," Voskanyan said.
