MP Hayk Mamijanyan from the opposition With Honor faction dismissed the claims of pro-government MPs that their visit to Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) would put the Artsakh people in danger.

The opposition factions in the Armenian parliament have boycotted this week’s parliament session, announcing their plans to head to Artsakh in a show of support for the Artsakh Armenians.

Speaking at a briefing on Tuesday, Mamijanyan, in turn, accused MPs of the ruling Civil Contract faction of renouncing Artsakh.

“We won't leave Artsakh alone, it's our homeland and we'll do everything possible to make sure it will never be part of Azerbaijan,” he said.

Speaking about the installation of the Artsakh flag in various parts in Armenia, Mamijanyan stated the Artsakh flag “has become a symbol of the movement to restore Armenia’s dignity.”

“It is clear that the junta, which voted against the establishment of a parliamentary committee on Artsakh, must have been upset about the Artsakh flag,” the MP said.

He claims that the Artsakh flag is not a goal, but a symbol of the struggle. "Let them think about what kind of Armenia they have built when planting the Artsakh flag can be assessed as an achievement," the deputy stressed.

"Artsakh is endangered as long as Civil Contract stays in power, because at the onset of the so-called “era of peace”, there are more victims, prisoners and territorial losses than in the previous 30 years,” Mamijanyan said.
