Azerbaijanis again block Artsakh-Armenia road
The competent Artsakh authorities are taking all possible measures to restore traffic along the Stepanakert-Goris highway, the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia blocked by a group of Azerbaijanis since Monday morning, the Artsakh InfoCenter said in a statement.
“A group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothes closed the Stepanakert-Goris highway at 10:30am, again citing environmental reasons,” it said.
“The command staff of the Russian peacekeeping troops deployed in Artsakh has been properly informed about the incident.
“Considering the aggressive and destructive behavior of the Azerbaijani side as unacceptable, the authorized state bodies of Artsakh are taking all possible measures to settle the situation, keeping in touch with the command staff of the Russian peacekeeping troops," reads the statement.
The Artsakh InfoCenter urged people to keep calm and follow official reports, refraining from spreading unverified information. It promised to provide updates on the situation.
The Azerbaijanis first blocked the road section outside the Azerbaijani-held Karabakh town of Shushi for more than three hours on December 3. They allegedly called for an investigation into “illegal” mining activity in the area and its “ecological consequences”.
