David Babayan: Unfortunately, Gorbachevism is still alive

Gorbachevism, the ideology of the final leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbechev, is still alive, Artsakh president’s advisor David Babayan said on the Soviet leader’s birthday on March 2. Below is Babayan's full statement posted on Facebook.

"Today is the birthday of Mikhail Gorbachev, a man who radically changed the world, who also changed the course of the history of our people, a man whose policies had an impact on the lives of each of us.

As the saying goes, about the dead is either good or nothing. Yes, Mikhail Gorbachev himself died in an advanced age. But his sort, his phenomenon is still alive, so in this context we can bypass this saying.

This type, this phenomenon can generally be singled out in a special category and call “Gobrachevism”. When assessing it there will always be two camps: those that positively evaluate his activities and those that negatively. However, this assessment is based on the highest degree of politicization, even "geopoliticization" of this phenomenon.

From a geopolitical point of view, he is unconditionally supported by those who considered the Soviet Union a geopolitical, civilizational and other type of enemy, and the destruction of this state, naturally, is the most important mission that Gorbachev brilliantly carried out on purpose or not, knowing or not knowing. And here, as a superstructure, i.e. ideological veil, theses are cultivated about Gorbachev's contribution "to the fight against totalitarianism, his struggle for glasnost, freedom, democratization", etc. Well, this is a natural process that always accompanies, covers, hides the true geopolitical goals. His opponents, on the contrary, blame him for the destruction of the country, conflicts, tragedies, and so on.

But, in any case, if we put aside the geopolitical factor that dominates here, and simply take the basic managerial characteristic of Gorbachevism, then the main characteristics are the lack of patriotism, low professionalism, even an irreparable gap in public management skills and state minded thinking, rabid populism, uncontrolled chatter, incessant sloganism and vainglory reached to the state of pathology.

I am sure that representatives of Gorbachev's supporters’ camp would not want such a politician to be their leader, even if they never publicly say so.

Unfortunately, Gorbachevism is still alive, even immortal and often manifests itself in many countries, sowing misfortune and chaos everywhere, creating serious problems. And even the political field of small Artsakh, which suffered so much because of Gorbachevism, is no exception here.

Save our people, o Lord, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."
