Robert Kocharyan 'hasn't stepped aside', son says
The opposition seeks to reveal the Armenian authorities’ mistakes at this point, Hayastan faction MP Levon Kocharyan said on Tuesday, adding the majority of Armenia’s population is “ill-informed” about the ongoing processes and the opposition's task is to make them more visible.
According to him, a significant part of the Armenian population would like to see a well-reasoned approach and discussions rather than radical steps.
"Effectiveness takes time. Naturally, I’m not satisfied with the efforts made by the opposition, but it doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to move forward more proficiently, fixing our own mistakes," the opposition MP said.
Levon Kocharyan insisted that his father, second Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, “has not washed his hands [of political processes] and stepped aside".
"He is active, and when it comes to public activity, this is his decision at this stage. The realities we have faced in recent years are too hard for him given his contribution to the [Artsakh] liberation struggle and our victories," Kocharyan said.
According to him, Robert Kocharyan holds meetings and discussions with his supporters and allies and will make public statements when he deems it necessary.
