The Princess of Wales is the nation’s favourite member of the Royal family, a poll has found.

More than 38 per cent of Britons named the 41-year-old Princess as the royal they liked the most, while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s popularity has decreased, The Telegraph reported.

An Ipsos poll of 1,000 people conducted for The Evening Standard showed that the Princess has remained in favour with the public, retaining the first place she held last year.

However, the survey was conducted before the controversy over an edited picture of the Princess and her three children on Mother’s Day, for which she has apologised.

The Princess later made an unexpected appearance in public amid growing speculation about her health and whereabouts. But she is not due to attend any public engagements for weeks to come after undergoing major abdominal surgery in January.

The Prince of Wales followed his wife in second place in the latest poll. His popularity was up by two points from last year to 36 per cent.

Kate was found to be more popular among women, with 44 per cent naming her as their favourite royal, compared to 32 per cent of men. When split by age groups, she was the least popular among 18 to 34-year-olds (28 per cent) and the most with the 55 to 75 age group (50 per cent).

This trend with age groups is mirrored with most royals.

The poll found the Princess Royal to be the third most popular royal, at 26 per cent, followed by the King and Queen, who both had increased popularity compared to last year’s survey.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, however, both saw their popularity decrease by three points compared to last year. Prince Harry is on 11 per cent and the Duchess 7 per cent.
