Villagers block Aparan-Yerevan highway in Armenia
Villagers on Monday blocked the Aparan-Yerevan highway in Armenia’s Aragatsotn Province to protest against the government decision to alienate 110 hectares of land in the village of Vardenut.
“The prime minister urges people to block roads to have their problems addressed. Now we’re heeding his call,” said a protester from the village of Bayandur.
Stating that many villagers lost their lands due to the decision, the man accused the Armenian authorities of lying to them.
“The prime minister says he is unware of the matter. How is it possible?” the villager said, adding the alienation also affected a land plot owned by his grandson.
Deputy Aragatsotn Governor Harutyun Gyulyan attempted to convince the villagers to unblock the road, promising to address their concerns.
