Armenian FM: We witnessed genocide in our region last year
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan deplored belated international response to genocide and other atrocity crimes in his remarks at the 5th Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide in Yerevan on Thursday.
“We’re witnessing acts of genocide in different parts of the world, especially in conflict zones,” the minister said.
“We witnessed this in our region not only in the case of the Armenian Genocide about 110 years ago, but also literally last year, when it seemed that the world was seeing enough risk factors that could lead to irreversible consequences.
“Unfortunately, we failed to prevent it and today we are facing its irreversible consequences. This is one of the examples when the response of international organizations was not commensurate with the risk factors and the situation on the ground,” he remarked.
