Pashinyan has 'opened a Pandora's box', ex-envoy says
Former Ambassador-at-Large Edmon Marukyan has stated that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's comments on the Armenian Genocide have “opened a Pandora’s box.”
In a Facebook post on Friday, Marukyan expressed concerns about the fallout from Pashinyan's remarks. “I’ve been closely following the reactions triggered by Nikol Pashinyan's statements on the Armenian Genocide, and I regret to say that Pashinyan has opened a Pandora’s box," he wrote.
Marukyan pointed to a recent discussion between Azerbaijani journalist Elmar Huseynov and pro-Azerbaijan lobbyist Maxim Shevchenko during a program aired on the YouTube channel of Vestnik Kavkaza.
“From the very beginning of the program, the phrase ‘the so-called Armenian Genocide’ is used. Referring to the Armenian leader’s remarks, the speakers try to flesh out their false narratives that it is a myth fabricated by the Armenian people," he said.
“There are issues, the discussion and disputing of which undermines the essence of the problem. Everyone understands this simple truth, and that's why the Armenian Genocide, recognized by world historiography, has never been a subject of debate in Armenian society. Yet, as we see, the Armenian authorities occasionally attempt to change this widely accepted stance," Marukyan added.
