Armenia, EU experts launch talks on power market reform, storage regulation

Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) has opened discussions with European Union experts on reforms to the country’s electricity market and new rules for energy storage, the commission reported on Wednesday.

The talks are part of the EU-backed Clean Energy Transition and Interconnection Promotion in Eastern Partnership Countries initiative under the EU4Energy program.

PSRC Chairman Mesrop Mesropyan stressed the importance of cooperation with the EU and other international partners, saying such exchanges help introduce modern regulatory solutions, align with global best practices, and support the sector’s sustainable growth.

Ármin Bőhm, head of the EU4Energy Armenia Office, highlighted the significance of Armenia-EU energy partnership and ongoing work under the program.

The discussions will present results of EU4Energy’s recent assessments, including a review of Armenia’s energy law, mapping of related secondary legislation and priorities for harmonizing national regulations with the Energy Community’s legal framework. Work on developing rules for electricity storage will also be showcased.

Officials said the goal is to deepen Armenia-EU cooperation in the energy sector and advance effective, modern regulations consistent with European standards.
