Armenian MP Hayk Konjoryan vows legal action over defamation following brother’s assault

Armenian pro-government MP Hayk Konjoryan plans to file lawsuits against individuals who he claims have spread false information and defamatory statements about him following an assault involving his brother that has sparked widespread discussion on social media.

In a statement released after videos allegedly showing his brother being assaulted circulated online, Konjoryan said authorities had opened a criminal case into the incident and expressed confidence that those responsible for the violence would be held accountable under the law.

“Any form of violence — whether physical, psychological or otherwise — is completely unacceptable, regardless of who commits it,” Konjoryan said Tuesday.

He stressed that disputes, including those arising from workplace or personal relationships, must be resolved exclusively through legal channels, adding that any unlawful attempt to settle conflicts is unacceptable.

Konjoryan said the circumstances surrounding the incident should be subject solely to legal evaluation and accused some political actors of attempting to use the case for political purposes by linking it to him personally.

He rejected such claims as baseless, saying he would never be involved in any process that violates the law or the principles of a democratic society.

Konjoryan also warned that he would pursue legal action against anyone who attributes false allegations or defamatory claims to him, whether related to the incident involving his brother or to any other matter.

“Any act of defamation will carry legal consequences for those responsible,” he said.
