Haykakan Zhamanak: Number of homeless makes about 400 in Yerevan
‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily says there are about 400 homeless people in Yerevan, with 103 of them living in a temporary shelter. According to the shelter director Shavarsh Khachatryan, many of them are reluctant to live in the shelter as they are not allowed to drink alcohol there.
Zhamanak: Armen Mkrtchyan most likely candidate for ombudsman
Lawyer Armen Mkrtchyan, a member of the National Council of Television and radio, is considered the most likely candidate for the vacant post of Ombudsman of Armenia. He is said to be a protégé of Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan.
Zhoghovurd: Stricter control needed over Russian military base
There are problems with the Russian base, Armenian MP Martun Grigoryan told ‘Zhoghovurd’ paper. “Local officials should establish serious control there. The recent incident is an occasion for our authorities to make concrete demands,” he said. To remind, a few days ago a drunken serviceman of the Russian 102nd military base in Gyumri attempted to break into a local resident’s apartment. He reportedly thought that that it was the apartment of his friend who also lives on the 4th floor, but in an adjoining house.
Hraparak: Kutoyan may replace prosecutor general Kostanyan who will be appointed Cassation Court head
“Hraparak’ paper writes that Georgy Kutoyan will soon replace Gevorg Kostanyan as prosecutor general of Armenia, while Kostanyan will be appointed chairman of the Cassation Court. The newspaper notes that aide Hrayr Ghukasyan - the son of Hovhannes Ghukasyan, a former judge of the Cassation Court – will be appointed as presidential advisor instead of G. Kutoyan. Hrayr Ghukasyan is an expert on criminal law. He previously worked as a defense lawyer and taught at Yerevan State University. He was appointed as an aide in 2014.
