In an interview with the National Olympic Committee of Armenia, Head coach of Armenian Women’s Weightlifting team, Artashes Nersisyan spoke about the team’s achievements, as well as the opportunities our two weightlifters have at the Olympic Games.

“Nazik has been initially chosen. Then we had to decide between Sona and Christine. Eventually, we’ve chosen Sona.

The team’s greatest achievement was the victory at the European Championship 2016. We’ve managed to win two medals, which was the first big move. Overcoming many obstacles, Nazik managed to return and prove the strength of her will and her place in the sports.

She is already a hero, no matter what place she wins at the Olympics. Sona has been given a unique chance. Gaining ranking points at the European Championship, she aided the team.

During the Olympics, each country is represented by its best athletes. More than 15 athletes from China, North Korea, Russia, Ukraine and Spain will fight for the medals. Many countries have become competitive in weightlifting. We’re holding our last meeting in Rio doing our final adjustments before the start of the games,” Nersisyan said.
