“TURKEY IS NOT A COUNTRY TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT AZERBAIJAN’S REQUESTS”
During this year Turkey’s intension to be integrated into European Union is weakened, which is conditioned by developments in Turkey, said Ruben Safrastyan, the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of National Academy of Sciences.
According to him, Turkey wants to review its positions in Near and Middle East, as they could have more chances to strengthen their position in Middle East rather than in its way to Europe. Safrastyan said that they have problems with democracy, which is another obstacle to be a part of Europe.
Regarding the proposal of Ankara to establish Caucasus Platform of Stability and Cooperation, Safrastyan said that the initiative is closely connected with August developments. “Turkey needed this initiative to be supported by Russia and the countries of South Caucasus. Georgia refused to support the initiative, because of Russia. In this regard Turkey signified the position of Armenia, otherwise only Azerbaijan would remain,” he said.
“Turkey is not a country to build its strategy and diplomacy taking into account Azerbaijan’s position,” said R. Safrastyan.
