CSTO has clearly stated its position on Karabakh conflict – Bordyuzha
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has clearly stated its position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in a number of statements last year, Nikolay Bordyuzha, Secretary General of the CSTO, said on Friday, Novosti Armenia reports.
Mr Bordyuzha said he visited Armenian border military units and discussed the matter with the Armenian President.
He noted that the problem was discussed last summer at the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders in Sochi, with Putin chairing the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s Council.
He stressed that in this matter the CSTO cannot respond with military measures since it goes against the basic principle of the Collective Security Council which states that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be solved peacefully and on basis of non-use of force.
Commenting on the recent subversive attempts by Azerbaijan that claimed lives of Armenian soldiers, Bordyuzha said, "We are talking about how we see the further development of the events and how this problem must be addressed politically. I think the statements made by the CSTO are quite serious and weighty and they reflect not only the opinion of the Russian Federation."
