In the annual ranking of peace-loving countries of (Global Peace Index 2014), compiled by the Institute for Economics and Peace, Armenia is still on a leading position in the South Caucasus.

Compared with the data of 2013 Armenia has improved its position with one point and is on the 97th place among 162 countries. Azerbaijan is on the 123th position this year, and Georgia is on 111th.

Note that Armenia keeps the leading position in the region since 2011.

Iran in this ranking is on the 131th place, Russia is on 152nd, Turkey - 128th. The most peaceful countries this year are recognized Iceland, Denmark, Austria, New Zealand and Switzerland, the rating ends up by Syria and Afghanistan.

Global Peace Index measures the level of violence within the state and aggression of its foreign policy. The first such rating was submitted in May 2007. Index of peace has been developed by an international group of experts from a number of research institutes and think-tanks under the auspices of the Institute for Economics and Peace of Sydney University (Australia).

Global Peace Index is based on 22 qualitative and quantitative indicators, grouped into three main groups: the presence and extent of the conflict, the level of stability and security within the country and the level of militarization of the state.
