Vision and perspectives for future work of Standing Committee on European Integration
On 18 July 2014, the EU Advisory Group (EUAG), together with the Standing Committee on European Integration of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, organised a Committee meeting at the National Assembly. The meeting was devoted to the vision and perspectives for the future work of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration. It was opened by Ms Naira Zohrabyan, Chairwoman of the Standing Committee on European Integration and Mr Dirk Lorenz, Head of Political, Economic, Press and Information Section, EU Delegation to Armenia, according to the press service of the EU Advisory Group to Armenia.
The event was aimed at identifying how the Standing Committee on European Integration could improve its functioning, thus enhancing its role in the EU integration process. During the meeting Mr Ilmars Solims, the EUAG advisor on EU Approximation and Governance, presented the EU integration experiences of similar committees working in EU member states. His presentation also analysed the current state of play where Armenia’s Standing Committee on European Integration is concerned. Based on this comparison, a number of practical recommendations were made for further consideration.
During the meeting, the advisor also presented his policy paper ‘On Improving the Role and Functioning of the Standing Committee on European Integration, taking into account the EU best practices.’
The workshop was attended by members and staff of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration, Foreign Affairs and State and Legal Affairs, representatives of NGOs and ministries.
