Karabakh President visits Fresno
Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan visited the city of Fresno in California on Monday.
The President laid wreaths at the memorial of the Armenian Genocide victims being built in the city, at the monument to prominent writer William Saroyan and at the tomb of member of Armenian national-liberation movement Soghomon Tehlirian.
On the same day, the President visited the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Armenia and met with Honorary Consul Perch Abgaryan and representatives of the local community.
Issues related to the implementation of various programs in Artsakh were discussed during the meeting. The President touched upon the domestic and foreign policy of NKR, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and regional processes as well as answered questions raised by the attendees.
Bako Sahakyan rated high the contribution of the Armenian community of Fresno in assisting Artsakh and added that being one of the most significant Armenian communities Fresno had a tangible role in the process of strengthening the Motherland-Diaspora ties, maintaining the Armenian national identity in the Diaspora and developing the Armenian-American relations.
Bako Sahakyan visited, in Los Angeles, the Primacy of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church and met there its Primate, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, a group of representatives of the Primacy Council and the local Armenian Community.
The President rated high the activity of the Western Diocese of the South U.S. in supporting Artsakh, preserving the Armenian national identity in the Diaspora and strengthening the Motherland-Diaspora ties, adding that the Armenian Apostolic Church was one of the cornerstones of the independent Armenian statehood and had an invaluable contribution in developing and strengthening it.
President Sahakyan also touched upon foreign and domestic policy of Artsakh, socioeconomic development and answered questions.
NKR Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Aghabekyan, Armenia’s Ambassador to U.S. Tigran Sargsyan and other officials attended the events, the press service of the Artsakh Republic President reported.
