International terrorist groups of Azerbaijanis make a living by brigandage in the homeland

Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan officials detained a band cooperating with Azerbaijani terrorists, Trend news agency reported.

As early as on April 5 the Ministry officials had detained suspects – citizens of Azerbaijan Teymur Tairov, Anar Abdullayev and Gadim Gadimov. Azerbaijani Ministry issued a report, according to which, an F-1 Grenade, 2 RGD-5 Grenades with 3 UZRGM Grenade fuses were confiscated from the group.

An investigation was launched on that fact under Article 228.2.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (illegal purchase, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of firearms, component parts, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices by a group, planned in advance). Arrest as restraint was imposed on the suspects – Teymur Tairov, Anar Abdullayev and Gadim Gadimov.

The investigation established that as far back as in late May 2004 Ilkin Asmayilov along with his radically disposed religious co-thinkers Elchin Jafarov, Rashid Aliyev, Rauf Dostuyev as well as a certain Yusif accepted Dostuyev’s suggestion to break into the house of his uncle Nazir Guliyev. The crime perpetrators considered Guliyev “faithless.”

On June 1, 2004 the criminals came up to the house of Rauf Dostuyev’s uncle by Dostuyev’s car and as they made sure that the master of the house was at work, Ilkin Ismayilov, Elchin Jafarov and above mentioned Yusif broke into the house. All of them wore masks except Rashid Aliyev, and Rauf Dostuyev stood on guard. Breaking into the house the criminals tortured mistress of the house Nurida Guliyeva threatening to kill her. Guliyeva’s under age son gave them the key of the room where money was in order to save his mother. The criminals taking 62 thousand USD escaped the scene of the crime.

Investigation was launched on the fact, on the criminal case filed under an article envisaging liability for large-scale brigandage. On December 28, 2004 the Grave Crimes Court of Azerbaijan sentenced Rauf Dostuyev, Elchin Jafarov, Rashid Aliyev to imprisonment of various terms. The examination of the criminal case against the person named Yusif was stopped.

It is noteworthy that perpetrator of brigandage of Guliyev’s house – Ilkin Ismayilov meanwhile was the leader of Azerbaijani terrorist organization Jamaat al-Muvahhidun.

In mid-2005 members of the terrorist organization Jamaat al-Muvahhidun were detained by Azerbaijani Ministry of National Security officials. Ismayilov with his 6 partners in crime were charged with planning physical liquidation of republic government and law-enforcement structures of Azerbaijan, explosions in Embassies and Representations of United States, Israel and Russia in Azerbaijan, State Oil Company building in Baku, National Bank building, Government House, etc.

I. Ismayilov was reported to have gathered people around him for “jihad,” that is, terrorist activities in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was decided to send members of that Azerbaijani group for training at a military camp in the Middle East.

On April 17, 2006 the Grave Crimes Court of Azerbaijan sentenced members of the terrorist organization Jamaat al-Muvahhidun to 9-15 years’ imprisonment, under the respective articles of the Criminal Code.

Note that Islamic radicalism and terrorism are widely spread in Azerbaijan. Citizens of that republic are found in Islamic terrorist groups in Afghanistan as well as in the North Caucasus.

In the homeland, criminal proceedings are instituted against Azerbaijani terrorists selectively: terrorists committing crimes only abroad, involved in terrorist activities against coalition troops in Afghanistan and Russian forces in the Caucasus are sentenced to short imprisonment – from 6 months to 2 years, and some are released just in the court. Legal proceedings of the kind took place on October 12, 2009 when 13 citizens of Azerbaijan appeared before court in Baku.

Members of groups charged with planning terrorist acts in Azerbaijan’s territory are sentenced to more serious imprisonment: on October 5, 2009 the court sentenced citizens of Azerbaijan and Lebanon planning explosions in Azerbaijan to imprisonment of 12-15 years.

The latest legal proceedings over Azerbaijani terrorists took place on June 17, 2010, with 31 citizens of Azerbaijan brought before the court. They were charged with establishing illegal armed groups, attempted terrorism, illegal storage and transportation of arms, arms and drug smuggling, etc. The terrorists were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment – from 3 to 15 years. It is noteworthy that thosee terrorists had also committed brigand attacks: they had attacked a currency exchange point injuring its official. The group leader was Azerbaijani terrorist Azar Misirkhanov with Abdulla nickname who was killed in Afghanistan.
