T. Poreba: “Conflict should be settled in frames of OSCE MG based on Madrid principles”
Panorama.am has already reported that Deputy of European Parliament, representative of European conservatives and reformists group, rapporteur on Armenia Tomasz Poreba, paid visit to National Assembly of Armenia. Our reporter managed to get some remarks from the deputy referring to his visit to NKR and meetings with NK authorities.
“I was to pay visit to Nagorno-Karabakh, because it is very important to prepare impartial report,” T. Poreba said.
European diplomat had two-day meetings in Nagorno-Karabakh; he met with President Bako Sahakyan, NA Chairman Ashot Ghulyan, Foreign Minister and other officials.
T. Poreba said his mission was to meet people and to listen to them.
Referring to meeting with the Chairman of NKR National Assembly, we asked how he could comment on A. Ghulyan’s statement that Karabakh should be a full party to the negotiations.
“I am a rapporteur on affairs of Armenia…But I am sure the conflict should be settled in frames of the OSCE Minsk Group based on Madrid principles.”
He said his visit to Artsakh targeted meetings with political elite and people, since otherwise he could not prepare a report on Armenia.
To the question if what he knew about Artsakh earlier matched with what he saw there.
“This was my first visit, and first impressions, which I will share with my Eyropean colleagues. I am going to share them with President Serzh Sargsyan whom I’m going to meet today,” T. Poreba said.
Soon after leaving Armenia and Artsakh the co-rapporteur will travel to Georgia and Azerbaijan.
“Though I’m rapporteur on Armenia, but these countries are linked with one another,” European deputy concluded.
