Armenian hospital fund of Polis returned donated building
“St. Savor” Armenian hospital fund of Polis managed to return a building in Istanbul, known as “Selamet Han”, which once belonged to them, “Ermenihaber.am” news website informs. The building was a donation from Armenian businessman Galust Gyulbenkyan given to the fund yet in 1953. But in 1994 Turkish authorities deprived the Armenian fund of its rights.
“St. Savor” Armenian hospital fund claimed to the European Court of Human Rights to get back its rights. The claim was rejected. Only in 2008 when a law on real estate belonging to the funds came into force, it became possible to return the building. According to the law, the funds of national minorities were suthorized to return their real estate deprived of any reason.
