President of Armenia answers Azerbaijan’s threats
President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan answered to Panorama.am question in a joint news conference with the President of Switzerland Micheline Calmy-Rey. Find the question and the answer below.
-How would You comment on Azerbaijan’s civil aviation state department’s, foreign ministry’s and other offices’ statement that they will shoot down the civil aircrafts which will land in the airport of Stepanakert, having meant the restoration of Yerevan-Stepanakert flights?
-The people of Nagorno-Karabakh have the right to be served avi transport means. There can be no doubt. It is also undoubtedly that both the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia must do their best to have that issue agreed with the state officials. I’m sure this process will have a positive end.
Referring to the statement, similar statements, even not few of them, have been recorded in modern history. But those statements have always been heard from terrorist organizations and not a single state used to make one. I would say it’s a real marasmus when a state makes such statement. They are speeches of sick people, they are untimely. What does it mean, when a state declares he will shoot aircrafts down? I mean, there is no need to comment on this.
But I declare that I am going to be the first passenger of that flight, me – the President of the Republic of Armenia.
I think Confederation of Switzerland completely supports us.
