Hurriyet. Bill criminalizing denial of Armenian Genocide in France to be placed on Senate agenda
Turkish “Hurriyet” daily is alarmed that French Senate is supposed to use pressure against Turkey again. It is believed that on May 4 opposition Socialist Party will place the resolution criminalizing denial of Armenian Genocide on agenda. The parliament faction of the socialists has approved the news.
If the Senate approves the bill, those who will keep denying Armenian Genocide in France will be jailed for 5 years and fined for 45.000 euros.
The French National Assembly has formally recognized as genocide the slaughter of more than a million Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1917. On October 12, 2006 the French lower house of parliament passed a bill making it a crime to deny Armenians genocide, which has not been approved by Senate yet.
