Baghdasaryan: There is no need for Republican Party to unite with ARFD to enhance its authority
There is no need for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) to unite with ARF-Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD) Party in order to enhance its own authority. RPA wants to cooperate with all political forces, the head of RPA’s parliamentary faction Vahram Baghdasaryan said during a briefing today when he was asked to comment on the statement of the head of ARFD’s faction Armen Rustamyan to the effect that “the authorities discredited themselves”, while support given to them poses a risk to own rankings.
“I don’t believe that our venerable colleagues would like to cooperated with the authorities that have discredited themselves. I value Rustamyan’s rich political experience and I don’t think he said it in a negative sense,” Baghdasaryan said.
According to him, RPA has already demanded an explanation from ARFD in that connection. He said that there are some problems in the country, but ‘one should also admit the fact that RPA is the most authoritative party in the arena”.
Baghdasaryan stressed that the opportunities of ARFD will expand in case of cooperation with RPA.
When asked what should be expected if Rustamyan reiterates his words, Baghdasaryan said: “Then we will draw relevant conclusions. I don’t make conclusions single-handedly. It will be a subject of discussion: if authorities have discredited themselves, then why does ARFD accept cooperation with this political force”.
Baghdasaryan urged reporters not to confuse the issue of cooperation between RPA and ARFD with such statements. He also called on Armen Rustamyan to curb his emotions.
