Arman Navasardyan: We should have recognized Karabakh long before to avoid bloodshed
The recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh independence by Armenia or any other state does not run counter to any international law, political scientist, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Arman Navasardyan told reporters at the press conference.
“As far as it concerns to the consequences of the Artsakh recognition, I will avoid provide any comments as those consequences might be of dual nature. Whether will the situation change n the region? Nor do I think that the resumption of the war should be connected with the recognition by Armenia,” the Ambassador noted.
Then the speaker referred to other examples of unrecognized states, namely South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Northern Cyprus, suggesting those recognitions brought little result.
Navasardyan then commented Moscow’s statement regarding the initiative to recognize Artsakh by Armenia.
“We may say Russia does not support the process, the US keeps silence while Turkey distances itself. Azerbaijan may provoke a large scale war, though, let me stress again, that is not be linked to the Karabakh recognition.”
Navasardyan also highlighted that Armenia should have recognized Karabakh long ago thus having avoided bloodshed.
“We should involve Nagorno Karabakh in the negotiations. That is to be our main task,” Navasardyan said.
