Iran acquires most of its arms from USA
Citing the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) report, the Iranian Asira.com presented those countries that have been selling weaponry to Iran for the past few decades.
According to the research, during the past 65 years Iran has acquired most of its arms from the USA. In 1950-2015, the USA has sold Iran weapons worth USD 24.943 billion. Most of the weapons were sold during 1972-1978, until the Islamic Revolution in Iran. After this, the USA stopped supplying Iran with weaponry.
According to the Iranian source, the USA secretly sold Iran weapons worth USD 64 million in 1984-1986.
The second country supplying Iran with weaponry have been the USSR and Russia, selling Iran weapons worth USD 6.715 billion.
Chine is the third, supplying Iran with weaponry worth USD 4.259 billion.
Since 1970, Great Britain is the second country after the USA supplying Iran with weapons. However, Great Britain considerably increased the level of weapons sold to Iran after the Islamic Revolution.
South Korea is the fifth in the report. It has been supplying Iran with weapons after the Islamic Revolution.
It sold weapons worth USD 1.527 billion.
Italy is the sixth on the list (USD 1.344 billion).
So, in 1950-2015 Iran has annually spent USD 710 million on acquiring weaponry.
