Do not doubt the Yezidi Genocide, Said Avdalyan’s call
The Armenian people knows well what Genocide means, Hasan Hsanyan, Head of Armenia’s Yezidis followers religious organization told reporters at a press conference, while speaking of the debates on recognition of the Yezidi Genocide in the National Assembly.
“In August of 2014 Iraqi Yezidis were subjected to genocide, where hundreds of youth people were forced to converse their religion, persecuted, about 8-9 thousand women and girls were kidnapped and traded. Most of the world states decided to speak up and call the atrocities as Yezidi genocide. The Congress of the United States, The Canada Government, the UN recognized the Yezidi Genocide. We welcome that Naira Zohrabyan was the one to suggested a legislation recognizing the Yezidi Genocide, yet we are surprised at MP Gurgen Arsenyan’s remarks doubting the Genocide,” Hasan Hasanyan said, once again thanking all the parliamentarians who earlier supported the legislation.
The Head of the Young Yezidis NGO Said Avdalyan, present at the press conference, said: “Parliamentarian Gurgen Arsenyan said earlier that the killing of 25-30 thousand of Yezidis does not constitute a Genocide, yet the UN Conventions and resolutions suggest that the murder of even three people because of their ethnic and religious identity is Genocide. The acts committed against the Yezidis of Iraq represent an apparent case of Genocide,” Avdalyan stressed.
He next called for not doubting the Yezidi Genocide “We call to not speculate the Yezidi Genocide during the election campaign. The legislation recognizing the Yezidi Genocide should be adopted despite all of this,” concluded Avdalyan.
