Romania’s stance on Karabakh conflict balanced over recent period – Armenian ambassador
Over the recent period, Romania’s positon on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has been balanced, and the Armenian side expects to further witness such a stance, Armenia's newly appointed Ambassador to Romania, Sergey Minasyan said on Thursday while handing over his credentials to Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.
The ambassador highlighted the settling of the Karabakh conflict through peace talks within the mediation mission of the OSCE Minsk Group, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
Ambassador Minasyan noted that the two countries can successfully cooperate on the sidelines of European structures especially in the spheres of emergency situations, crisis management, research and education.
The Armenian envoy expressed gratitude to President Klaus Iohannis for Romania’s policies on protecting the rights of ethnic and religious minorities, highlighting the country became a second homeland for Armenians who resettled there centuries ago, as well as after the 1915 Armenian Genocide. The ambassador further addressed the upcoming 17th Francophonie Summit to be hosted by Yerevan on 11-12 October 2018, stressing the Romanian president’s participation in the event can give a new impetus to enhancing the Armenian-Romanian cooperation at bilateral and multilateral formats especially given Romania’s significant role as the Francophonie regional center.
