Business, inspirational and fiction books in demand in Armenia during coronavirus lockdown
During the coronavirus lockdown, many people spent their time reading books. Many finally finished reading the book, which they had started for a long time but had not managed to finish it or had wanted to read the book, but had not had much spare time.
Speaking to Panorama.am, Rosa Grigoryan, a public relations officer at Edit Print Publishing House, said that during the quarantine period, they received an unprecedented number of messages from customers on both the Facebook and Instagram pages of the publishing house. At times, they served some 60-80 customers a day. The publishing house also received an unprecedented number of calls, she said.
"During the quarantine period, we offered free shipping throughout Armenia and even discounted our entire collection special for book lovers. We offered a 15% off for our books,” she said.
According to Grigoryan, readers mostly purchased business, inspirational and fiction books.
In particular, the books of Erich Maria Remarque, John Green, David Samvelyan, Agatha Christie, "Shoe Dog" by Phil Knight, “The Gambler” by William Rempel, “Mr Five Per Cent” by Jonathan Conlin, “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, "The Art of Loving" by Erich Fromm, to name a few, were in-demand during the lockdown.
She noted that David Samvelyan continued to be the most popular Armenian writer. During the quarantine period, his new book entitled "Attention, the Doors are not Closing" inspired by the coronavirus situation was released.
"We are satisfied with the volume of deliveries, but since the bookstores were closed, we lost sales," Rosa Grigoryan said.
