Chief of Armenian top court staff urges parents not to let their kids go back to school
Chief of Staff of the Constitutional Court of Armenia, former Armenian Ambassador to Poland Edgar Ghazaryan is calling on parents not to send their children back to school on 15 September, questioning the efficiency of the coronavirus safety rules set by the education ministry.
“The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia has published a guideline, according to the rules and regulations of which the classes are to be organized at public schools starting from September 15, 2020. As is often the case with the incumbent authorities, it has not been subjected to any preliminary discussion with the main beneficiaries of the process, including teachers, psychologists, doctors and parents,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday.
“Moreover, I am not aware of any public discussions on this topic, where it would be possible to listen to the opinions and views of experienced people and to consider options for organizing classes in a new situation. As a result, a procedure has been established which is at least highly problematic in terms of its application and can lead to an intolerable situation for our children and teachers. The education authorities have already announced that changes need to be made in the guideline,” he added.
“I believe that if reasonable decisions fail to be adopted, we should refrain from sending our children back to school from September 15,” the former ambassador said, stressing non-professionals are involved in the decision-making process.
Ghazaryan said he has two school-age children and is not going to let them return to school.
He urged all parents not to send their children back to school so long as “reasonable decisions have not been made through public discussions.”
