The latest statement of the Artsakh National Security Service (NSS) on the need for the return of weapons distributed during the combat operations by January 10 is not in line with the situation in the country, according to Henaket Analytical Center head Tigran Abrahamyan.

“While the Azerbaijani military convoy was passing through the capital of Artsakh, Stepanakert, more specifically, was heading to Shushi through Mazi Bridge, the NSS of Artsakh issued a statement calling on the Artsakh people to return the weapons they received during the war. Otherwise it threatened ... it doesn't matter with what now,” he wrote on Facebook on Saturday.

“I won’t share the Azerbaijani video on my page, because those in the car are making offensive remarks about Armenians, but I wanted to talk about something else.

“Under regular conditions, I would understand the NSS statement, but not now. Especially in the light of what happened in the villages of Khtsaberd and Khin Tager of the Hadrut region, different villages of the Shushi region, not to mention Artsakh, which is in full view of Azerbaijan, this statement is not in tune with the situation,” the analyst said.

In Abrahamyan’s words, the National Security Service should seek ways to allow Artsakh people to legally carry weapons, at least so long as the people feel the need for it.

“And there is such a need. If the NSS is not aware of the public sentiment, it is much worse, but if it takes such hasty steps being aware of it, it already causes other concerns. I repeat myself, the haste is completely incomprehensible,” he added.
