Opposition MP calls for rally at Yerevan’s Republic Square on Thursday
MP Gegham Manukyan from the opposition Armenia faction urged people to gather at the Republic Square in downtown Yerevan on Thursday morning for a rally.
His call came after Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council Armen Grigoryan said on Wednesday that Azerbaijan would set up customs checkpoints on the Goris-Kapan highway from midnight.
“Come to the Republic Square tomorrow at 11am to show resistance!” he wrote on Facebook late on Wednesday.
“On November 10, the authorities officially declared that the Goris-Kapan road will be under Azerbaijani control from now on. Moreover, a government official today visited Syunik Province, officially announced the end of construction of a bypass road, and the enemy immediately closed the highway in follow-up to the conspiratorial act of the Armenian authorities. Shall we tolerate this? Who will be responsible for this? There will be a government meeting in the morning, and we have the right to ask them questions. We will demand an answer from the government,” Manukyan said.
