Hayastan faction to continue parliament boycott
The parliamentary faction of the opposition Hayastan alliance will continue boycotting National Assembly sessions which began in April, it said in a statement on Friday.
The faction accused Armenia's ruling Civil Contract party of “disrupting” the parliament activity in violation of the law.
“Ignoring the major security threats, the incumbent authorities are imposing agendas on the National Assembly that do not address the imminent threats facing Armenia and Artsakh. Moreover, gross violations of the parliament statute by the Civil Contract faction, disregard of international standards for holding sessions, as well as its blatant abuse of power delegitimize the activity of the parliament as a representative body.
“Therefore, the Hayastan faction will continue to boycott sessions of the National Assembly and its committees in protest against the illegal practices of the parliament majority,” reads the statement.
Meanwhile, the bloc said it will call parliamentary hearings on issues of great public interest.
The faction continues to prioritize the security of Armenia and Karabakh, as well as the removal of the incumbent authorities. Members of the faction will continue to maintain contacts with foreign partners and diplomats accredited in Armenia.
Also, the Hayastan faction will continue efforts aimed at giving a fresh impetus to the opposition Resistance Movement and tackling security challenges, the statement said.
