Opposition leader calls draft dodgers bill 'outdated'
Opposition Hayastan faction leader Seyran Ohanyan claims the government-drafted bill on military draft dodgers is “outdated”.
The bill would exempt the draft dodgers aged 27 and older from criminal prosecution in exchange for hefty fees.
“The draft law might have been acceptable in a different situation,” the MP told parliamentary debates on Tuesday.
He called for tougher measures given the military and political situation in Armenia, as well as risks of renewed war.
“The bill is somewhat outdated. We will abstain from voting in the first reading and will make a final decision before the second one,” Ohanyan noted.
