Armenian soldier found dead identified as journalism student Narek Torosyan

An Armenian soldier who was found dead at a military unit on Tuesday has been identified as Narek Torosyan, a journalism student at the Russian-Armenian University.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the university described him as a kind, humble and friendly young man whose memory would remain with those who knew him.

"The memory of Narek becomes even more precious today," the university said, extending its condolences to his family, relatives, friends and the wider university community.

"Our university family shares this immeasurable grief and stands with Narek's loved ones, wishing them strength and resilience in overcoming the pain of this irreparable loss," the statement said.

Armenia's Investigative Committee said a criminal investigation has been launched into the death of the serviceman, which occurred at a Defense Ministry military unit.

Investigators are carrying out investigative and procedural actions to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities have not disclosed the cause of death or released additional details.
