Two Armenian servicemen have been placed in pretrial detention after being charged with negligently driving a fellow soldier to suicide following the death of conscript Narek Torosyan, Armenia's Investigative Committee said on Thursday.
The charges stem from the death of Torosyan, a serviceman stationed at a Defense Ministry military unit in the town of Chambarak, where he died on July 21.
According to the Investigative Committee, a junior sergeant has been charged under Article 522, Part 2, Clauses 1, 2 and 3 of Armenia's Criminal Code, while a private has been charged under Article 522, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 3. Both are accused of negligently driving a serviceman to suicide.
The two suspects were detained during the investigation, and prosecutors petitioned the court to order their pretrial detention. The court granted the request, and both men have been remanded in custody.
