NKR human rights defender Yuri Hayrapetyan takes part in European Ombudsman Institute meeting
Yuri Hayrapetyan, the human rights defender of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, participated in the regular general meeting of European Ombudsman Institute in Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, ARTSAKH press agency reports.
In a Facebook post, the NKR human rights defender informed that leadership was elected during the meeting. The 18 members of the department elected a secretary general for the institute, a president and two deputy presidents. The ombudsman of Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate, became the new president substituting Burgi Volger (former ombudsman of South Tyrol). Alexander Shishlov, the ombudsman of St. Petersburg, Russia, and Dragan Milkov, a professor from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, were elected vice-presidents. Dr Josef Siegele, Austria, was reelected in his position of the Institute’s secretary general.
The NKR ombudsman, Yuri Hayrapetyan, got an official status in the European Ombudsman Institute on 31 August 2009. The European Ombudsman Institute carries out researches on human rights, defends civil liberties and spreads the ideas of the ombudsman’s institute. All the ombudsmen from the European countries are members of this organization.
