International Media have called Ilham Aliyev’s twits threatening Armenia as ''provocative and aggressive''
Ilham Aliyev's aggressive tweets on Azeri-Armenian conflict provoke online confrontation, says the article published on the Al Jazeera website.
The article notes that after the renewed fighting between Armenian and Azeri armies the President of Azerbaijan made a series of combative tweets. “President Aliyev took to Twitter to threaten war, while calling Armenians "barbarians and vandals", - writes Al Jazeera.
In response to the statements, a group of Armenians, among them the Armenian National Committee of America started #StopAliyev campaign and called on others to join.
“Rich dictator is leading the region to war risking the lives of people on both sides and destroying hopes for peace in Karabakh,” says the announcement by ANCA.
Prominent journalist Maxim Eristavi in social network Storify also commented on the “tsunami of Aliyev’s tweets”. “In the epic Twitter barrage Azerbaijan president Illham Aliyev has just threatened nearby Armenia with a war. Social media misuse or is someone really angry?” writes the journalist.
According to British newspaper The Independent Ilham Aliyev has said in “a highly militant series of messages” that his country is in a “state of war” with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh. The article also notes that in more than 60 messages Aliyev has threatened to start a war in the region.
Hayes Brown’s article posted on American political blog ThinkProgress says that first time in international politics the president of Azerbaijan appears to have declared the resumption of war through Twitter.
The author notes that Aliyev at times referred to Armenia solely as “the enemy” which repeatedly hit on the patriotism of the Azeri people.
