Two of four Armenians killed in Sochi house fire are Armenian citizens – spox
Two of the four Armenians killed in a fire at a residential building in the Russian resort city of Sochi hold Armenian citizenship, Tigran Balayan, a spokesman of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, told reporters on Tuesday.
“Another Armenian has been wounded in the fire. S/he has been hospitalized,” the spokesman said.
As reported earlier, four Armenians died in the fire that erupted at around six o’clock on Monday morning in a land plot owned by the state-owned Russian Railways company. An unnamed Sochi administration spokesperson told Interfax news agency the fire may have been caused by a neighboring barbecue grill.
According to preliminary data, eight hired workers from CIS countries were killed.
Balayan also said the ministry test applied the new alert system during the deadly wildfires erupted in Greece, adding it will be further activated.
Anna Naghdalyan, an employee of the Foreign Ministry’s Press and Public Diplomacy Department, detailed that only VivaCell-MTS subscribers receive warning messages at the moment, adding agreements have already been reached with Beeline and UCOM to install the system in their services as well.
