President Joe Biden is headed to Hollywood! Biden, 79, will be featured on Wednesday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live in his first in-studio late night appearance as president.  Host Jimmy Kimmel announced the news Sunday night during his "Jimmy Kimmel Live: NBA Finals Game Night" special.

James Milner: Liverpool midfielder signs new one-year contract

James Milner has signed a one-year contract extension to stay at Liverpool until the end of next season. The 36-year-old’s deal was due to expire this month and he has accepted a significant pay cut to remain with the club he joined from Manchester City in 2015. Milner is understood to have had offers from at least one other Premier League club and from two teams abroad.

At least 20 dead in new DR Congo massacre

At least 20 people have been killed in a new massacre in DR Congo's eastern province of Ituri, a respected monitor said on Monday, adding that the notorious ADF militia were suspected. The attack took place overnight in the village of Bwanasura in Irumu territory, the Kivu Security Tracker (KST) said on Twitter. David Beiza, head of the Red Cross in Irumu, said volunteers from his organisation "have counted 36 bodies" at the site of the massacre.

Injured Salah led Egypt to victory after defying Liverpool

Mohamed Salah played 90 minutes for Egypt on Sunday despite being injured. The Liverpool forward turned down the Reds' offer of a scan before the game. He has been struggling with a groin problem he picked up in the FA Cup final. Egypt have two more fixtures this month but Salah will now undergo an X-ray.

Musk threatens to drop Twitter deal if fake-account data not provided

Elon Musk is threatening to walk away from his $44 billion bid to buy Twitter, accusing the company of refusing to give him information about its spam bot and fake accounts. Lawyers for the Tesla and SpaceX CEO made the threat in a letter to Twitter dated Monday, and Twitter disclosed it in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The letter says Musk has repeatedly asked for the information since May 9.

Rare 1679 Stradivari violin could fetch $11 million at auction

A rare violin made by renowned Italian craftsman Antonio Stradivari is headed for auction next month where it could fetch up to $11 million. The "Hellier" Stradivarius "is the finest inlaid violin ever made by... Stradivari and one of the finest Stradivarius instruments in existence", said auction house Christie's which is offering the instrument as the top lot in its July 7 "The Exceptional Sale".

China warns Canada over air patrols monitoring North Korea sanctions busting

China has accused Canadian military jets of stepping up reconnaissance and “provocations” against the country, with its foreign ministry warning Ottawa of potential “severe consequences”. China’s defence ministry on Monday said it opposed Canada’s actions, which it said endangered the Asian country’s national security, while the foreign ministry said the air patrol by Canada was unauthorised. Canada had previously accused China of harassing its pilots during patrols to monitor UN sanctions on North Korea.

Bon Jovi's first bassist Alec John Such dies at age 70

A founding member of the legendary US rock band Bon Jovi, former bassist Alec John Such, has died at the age of 70, the group announced. Such played with them from 1983 to 1994, when they had such hits as You Give Love a Bad Name, Livin' on a Prayer and Bad Medicine. He was credited with bringing the band together and was remembered as a dear friend who was "wild and full of life". No details were given of how or where he had died.

'Top Gun,' Tom Cruise just broke another box office record

In its sophomore outing at the box office, “Top Gun: Maverick” has already become Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing domestic release of his career. The patriotic action film earned $86 million last weekend for a North American cumulative of $291.6 million, according to estimates from measurement firm Comscore. Prior to this, Cruise’s biggest domestic box office success was “War of the Worlds,” which amassed $234.3 million in 2005.

Kazakhs back sweeping reforms to move past Nazarbayev era

Voters in Kazakhstan supported constitutional amendments proposed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in a referendum, the Central Election Commission said on Monday. The commission said that 77.18% of votes in the Sunday referendum were in favour of the amendments, which decentralise decision-making and strip former leader Nursultan Nazarbayev of his "national leader" status. Turnout was 68.06%.

U.S. safety regulators receive over 750 complaints of Teslas braking for no reason

More than 750 Tesla owners have complained to U.S. safety regulators that cars operating on the automaker’s partially automated driving systems have suddenly stopped on roadways for no apparent reason. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed the number in a detailed information request letter to Tesla that was posted Friday on the agency’s website.

Nadal hoping to play Wimbledon if foot allows

French Open champion Rafa Nadal will play at Wimbledon later this month if his body allows him to, the Spaniard said on Sunday after winning Roland Garros for a record-extending 14th time. "I am going to be in Wimbledon if my body is ready to be in Wimbledon. Wimbledon is not a tournament that I want to miss," said Nadal, who has been suffering from a chronic foot injury.

Monkeypox: Cases outside Africa rise to 780 in three weeks

There have been 780 confirmed cases of monkeypox in countries where the virus is not usually found, the World Health Organization says. That is roughly triple the 257 cases it reported a week ago. It says the figure - for the past three weeks - is probably an underestimate and assesses the global risk level as "moderate". The WHO said cases had been identified in 27 countries where it is not already "endemic". The UK has the most cases, with 207, followed by Spain with 156 and Portugal with 138.

Dozens of worshippers feared dead after Nigeria church attack

Gunmen launched an assault on a Catholic church in Ondo state in Nigeria during mass on Sunday, killing more than 50 people in a “satanic attack”, local officials and volunteers said. The attackers targeted the St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in the town of Owo as the worshippers gathered on Pentecost Sunday, according to local officials. They gunned down parishioners and detonated an explosive device, local media reported.

Wales beats Ukraine to end 64-year wait for World Cup return

Gareth Bale led Wales to their first World Cup since 1958 as Ukraine's dreams of lifting the spirits of a war-torn country were cruelly denied by a 1-0 defeat in Cardiff on Sunday. Bale's free-kick, which was turned into his own net by Ukrainian captain Andriy Yarmolenko, separated the sides despite the visitors dominating the game in sodden conditions at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Bangladesh fire: Over 40 killed, hundreds injured in depot blast

A fire and a huge explosion have killed at least 49 people and injured hundreds more at a storage depot near the city of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Hundreds of people had arrived to tackle the fire when a number of shipping containers exploded at the site in Sitakunda. It is thought that chemicals were stored in some of the containers. Many of the injured are said to be in a critical condition and the number of people killed is expected to rise.

Rafael Nadal wins record-extending 22nd Grand Slam title with incomparable 14th final

Rafael Nadal claimed a record-extending 14th title at the French Open as he defeated Norwegian Casper Ruud 6-3 6-3 6-0. Nadal won the last 11 games of the final and is now two Slams ahead of old rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer with Sunday's victory coming against all the odds. The victory also means the 36-year-old Nadal, who won his first French Open title 17 years ago, becomes the oldest men's singles champion at Roland Garros.

Iran supreme leader accuses 'enemy' of trying to use protests

"Today, the enemies’ most important hope for striking a blow at the country is based on popular protests,” Khamenei said, referring to week-long protests over the collapse of a building in southwestern Iran last month that killed 37 people. "But the enemies’ calculation is as wrong as many earlier ones," he said in a televised speech on the 33rd anniversary of the death of the leader of Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
